Two women traveling in a
Ford Mustang II were rear-ended by a drunk driver. The Mustang's
gas tank exploded on impact fatally burning one of the women,
who had survived the crash. This case was instrumental in
bringing national attention to a deadly vehicle design defect
and helped force the automobile industry to improve fuel tank
design safety, saving the lives of countless individuals.
